4 injured in land dispute attack in Joypurhat

27 February 25 Four people were injured in a land dispute attack in Binayil village of Kalai upazila of Joypurhat.
The attack took place on Sunday (February 23) afternoon in Binayil village in the middle of Udaypur union of the upazila.

The injured are Monirul Haque (30), Sumana Akhter (22), Rani Akhter (20), and Marjina Begum (48).

According to local and complaint sources, about 10/12 people including Mejbaul, Mohsin Hossain, Suborna Akhter carried out the attack with sticks and batons on Sunday afternoon. The seriously injured have been admitted to Joypurhat General Hospital and Kalai Upazila Health Complex. Monirul Haque has filed a complaint with Kalai police station in this incident.

Monirul Haque said, “They broke the door of my house in a pre-planned manner and attacked me with a country-made weapon with the intention of killing me, resulting in serious injuries to me, my wife, sister, and mother.”

Opponent Mejbaul said, “They have been in a dispute with us over land for a long time. There was a fight with Monirul over it. Two of us were also injured.”

Local villagers alleged that Mejbaul works for an NGO in Mithapukur area of ​​Rangpur. On Sunday afternoon, he suddenly came to the area and went to Monirul Haque’s house and beat him up. This is destroying the environment of the village. We want a proper trial and appropriate punishment for the guilty.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalai Police Station Zahid Hossain said, “There was a fight in Udaypur Union over land. Both parties have filed a written complaint with the police station in this incident. Necessary legal action will be taken after investigation.”
