2,799 government primary schools have been affected by the floods

According to preliminary data, 2,799 government primary schools’ infrastructure, furniture and other items and books have been damaged in the recent incessant floods in 11 southeastern districts of the country. About 33 crore rupees will be initially required for the renovation of these schools. This budget will be adjusted from the Directorate of Primary Education. Among the damaged primary schools are 763 in Noakhali, 501 in Lakshipur, 550 in Feni, 22 in Brahmanbaria, 523 in Comilla, 169 in Chandpur, 164 in Chittagong, 77 in Moulvibazar, 8 in Sylhet and 22 in Habiganj. No schools were damaged in Khagrachari. Apart from these, 946 learning centers of district-wise out-of-school children education programs in 18 upazilas of Noakhali, Comilla, Feni and Lakshmipur districts have been damaged.
Today in the meeting room of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, these information were informed in a meeting regarding ‘Damage assessment and actions to be taken in the primary education sector due to the recent incessant floods’.
Advisor to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar was present as the chief guest on the occasion. The adviser said that during post-flood rehabilitation, the works should be done on an emergency basis. If everyone works together, we will be able to achieve the goal.
Under the chairmanship of the Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Farid Ahmed, Director General of Compulsory Primary Education Implementation Monitoring Unit Nurjahan Khatun, Director General of Directorate of Primary Education Abdus Samad, Additional Chief Engineer of LGED Md. Abdur Rashid Mia were present directly and online.
The meeting was informed that 1,15,823 textbooks of 1,321 schools in Feni, Chittagong, Comilla and Moulvibazar were damaged. Of these, 28,736 textbooks have been coordinated. Coordination of the rest is in progress. 97,553 textbooks were damaged in 582 schools in Feni Sadar, Daganbhuanya, Sonagazi, Chagalnaya, Parashuram and Phulghazi. 24,276 textbooks have been adjusted from the surplus textbooks of the upazila. Reconciliation of the rest of the textbooks is in progress. 2,300 textbooks in 80 primary schools in Chittagong’s Mirsrai Upazila were damaged and coordinated from textbooks in warehouses. 13,810 textbooks have been damaged in 559 schools of Chauddagram Upazila of Comilla and the adjustment process is underway. 2,160 textbooks in 100 schools of Rajnagar upazila of Moulvibazar were damaged and adjusted. In Habiganj, Khagrachari, Chandpur, Lakshmipur, Noakhali, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, there were reports that no textbooks were damaged in the flood.
It was decided in the meeting that LGED, Public Health Engineering Department, Upazila Engineer, Education Department officials, education officials will properly determine the damage of government primary school infrastructure, furniture and other items and books through coordination. The list of clothes and bags of affected students of primary schools in flood-affected districts must be submitted to the ministry by September 15. Collection of bleaching powder for cleanliness in schools and other urgent activities should be completed quickly.

High Commissioner of Pakistan meeting with Adviser on Primary and Mass Education

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Syed Ahmed Maroof (SYED AHMED MAROOF) met with the advisor of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Prof. Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar at the Bangladesh Secretariat Advisor’s office today.
During the meeting, they discussed in detail bilateral issues of mutual interest. They also discussed the curriculum of the two countries.
Farid Ahmed, Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education was present at this time.
