Saudi Arabia bid as a country for the 2034 FIFA World Cup in October last year. The Middle Eastern country confirmed that it is going to host the World Cup 10 years later. Saudi Arabia has also announced plans to host the biggest football World Cup in history.
The country will host this World Cup with 48 teams. No one has a record of organizing the World Cup with so many teams before.
On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s state media reported that the 2023 World Cup will be held in 15 stadiums in 5 cities. The cities are – Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, Abha and Neom. The announcement came after Saudi Arabia formally submitted its tournament bid to FIFA on Tuesday.
There will be 8 stadiums in the capital Riyadh. Among which there is a stadium with a capacity of 92 thousand spectators. The name of this stadium under construction is King Salman Stadium. Its construction will be completed in 2029. The opening and final matches of the World Cup will be held here. At the same time, after the construction, this field will be considered as the home venue of the Saudi national football team.
In 2022, Qatar World Cup was successfully hosted by the Middle Eastern country of Qatar. They spent 220 billion dollars. Neighboring Saudi Arabia bid to host the World Cup in October last year, inspired by the much smaller country. Australia also bid them at that time. Later, when Australia withdrew its bid, Saudi got the responsibility of hosting the World Cup alone.
