Locals in Manoharganj, Comilla, mobbed MP candidate Jamir Uddin Manik (Gamcha Marka in 2024) and handed him over to the police on charges of attempting to rape his nephew’s wife.
The incident took place at 3:30 am on Sunday (April 27) in Paranpur village of the upazila. When the victim got up to offer Tahajjud prayers at 3:30 am, Manik tried to rape her. When her neighbors heard her screams, they beat Manik up and handed him over to the police.
Police and family sources say that Jamir Uddin Manik has been harassing the housewife for the past few months. When the victim informed her (Manik’s) family about the matter, the family warned him. On Saturday at 3:30 am, when she came out to prepare for Tahajjud prayers, he grabbed the victim’s face and forced her to do so. At one point, the victim ran away from the rapist and screamed. People from the surrounding houses came and rescued her, caught the rapist Manik and handed him over to the police. Manik confessed his guilt in front of everyone present.
In the 12th National Parliament election, Jamir Uddin Manik contested from the Laksham-Manoharganj constituency under the Gamcha symbol. Although Manik received a few votes, he has started to make it clear that he is the MP. After August 5, the coordinator used to introduce himself in different areas.
In this regard, Bipul Chandra Dey, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manoharganj Police Station, said – When people in Manik’s area informed us about the incident that night, a team of Manoharganj Police Station went and brought Manik to the police station. The victim woman has filed a complaint against Manik at Manoharganj Police Station, Manik has been sent to Comilla Jail. Legal action will be taken after investigation.
