So I prayed to Goddess Rupi Maa in Kumari Puja to keep us all well. Mandap priest Prasenjit Chakraborty said, according to scriptures, Kumari Puja originated from the killing of Banasura or Kolasura. A demon called Kolasura once took possession of heaven and mortals. Due to Kolasu’s possession of heaven and death, the rest of the endangered gods took refuge in Mahakali. Responding to the pleas of all the gods, the goddess took birth as a human girl and killed Kolasura as a virgin. Killed Kolasura in the form of a reborn virgin. Since then, the practice of worshiping the mortal virgins began. It is noted that Durga Puja is being held in 605 mandaps in the district this year.
