According to sources related to the project, the construction work of the eight projects undertaken across the country started in January 2014. The construction of the Ashuganj Modern Rice Silo was scheduled to be completed in April 2021. Due to the corona virus, there is a slight decline in the construction work. Besides, due to the inter-ministerial decision, the project could not be completed within the stipulated time due to complications in the construction of the jetty on Meghna river and some problems of the construction company. At present, more than 75 percent of the project work has been completed. Currently, the construction work is going on rapidly.
According to related sources, under the Prime Minister’s priority project to ensure sufficient and strengthening of food stocks, the Ministry of Food has launched a project of Tk 35,649 crore four lakhs in modern food storage in some places of the country (Dhaka, Chittagong, Narayanganj, Khulna, Barisal, Mymensingh, Tangail and Ashuganj in Brahmanbaria). takes Under this, a modern steel silo with a capacity of one lakh five thousand metric tons is being built in Ashuganj at a cost of Tk 540 crore 45 lakh 49 thousand 264. This silo will consist of 30 silo bins. Each silo bin has a capacity of 35 thousand metric tons. It will be possible to store rice for about two years by controlling humidity and temperature through modern chiller (automatic temperature control device) without pesticides.
After inspecting the construction work, the project director (PD) of the modern rice silo construction project, engineer Rezaul Karim Sheikh said, ‘It will process rice storage, bagging and loading-unloading in an automatic process. The operator can sense the temperature of each silo bin by the automatic machine sitting in his room. As a result, it will be possible to control the correct temperature and humidity.
