Firoz Alom, Bauphal Upazila correspondent : Marzia, a 2-year-old child, died after being injured in a race between two Dhaka-bound launches in Patuakhali’s Bauphal . Marzia died on Friday night while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Children’s Hospital. Mohiuddin Lavlu, the former chairman of Keshabpur Union Parishad in Bauphal, said that the death of the child has cast a shadow of mourning on the area. In this regard, the residents of the area are protesting against the launch authority. Residents of the area are strongly demanding the procession to take necessary action against the launch authorities.
Marzia is the daughter of Mehedi Hasan of Mominpur village in Keshabpur union of Bauphal. According to related sources, Dhulia-1 and Bandhan-5 launched from Kalaiya in Bauphal for Dhaka on July 17 with commuters coming on Eid vacation. Two launches compete in mid-river to take passengers from Dhulia Paltan. The Dhulia-1 launch hit Paltan at high speed while crowding ahead of the Bandhan-5 launch to pick up passengers. At that time, the passengers in the palanquin were injured. Some fell into the river Tetuliya. Due to rush and crowd pressure, child Marjia was injured along with 30 passengers. He was taken to Dhaka Children’s Hospital for advanced treatment. He died there on Friday night after 12 days under treatment.
