Jillu Rahmam Jewel, Patuakhali: On the occasion of July 23-29 National Fishery Week 2022 in the light of “Safe Fish Bharbo Desh Bangabandhu”, a media exchange meeting was held on the implementation of Galachipa Upazila Administration and Directorate of Fisheries under the chairmanship of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashish Kumar. Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Md. Zahirunnabi presided over the meeting. He told the media that like every year, the National Fishery Week 2022 is going to be celebrated from 23 July 2022. On this occasion, he wished all the upazila fish farmers, shrimp farmers, crab farmers, fishermen, traders, fish traders and all those connected with the fisheries sector. He also said that you will be very happy to know that Bangladesh is now self-sufficient in fish production. According to the information of the Department of Fisheries, the target for fish production in the financial year 2020-21 was 45.52 lakh metric tons. Which currently fish production is 46.21 lakh metric tons. In the fiscal year 1983-84, the total production of fish was 7.54 million metric tons. This production has increased to 46.21 lakh metric tons in 2020-21 financial year in a gap of 38 years. Executive Officer Ashish Kumar Balem, President of the discussion meeting, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, made a good suggestion to transform fish farming into a social movement by officially releasing fish fry in Ganabhavan Lake in 1973. At that time Bangabandhu predicted – ‘Fish will be the second major source of foreign exchange in this country. Bangabandhu’s dream has been successful today due to the adoption of various fisheries-friendly programs under the visionary and visionary leadership of the honorable daughter of the Father of the Nation, Sheikh Hasina.
