Around 2010, Bangladesh had only 10% forest cover. However, 25% forestation is necessary to protect the balance of the country’s environment and climate. The Prime Minister of the current government, Sheikh Hasina, who came to power at that time, paid special attention to forestry to maintain the country’s climate, said at the opening ceremony of the Rajshahi Divisional Tree Fair on Wednesday. He said this in the speech of the chief guest.
He said that the Bangladeshi architect Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had planted trees in the present Suhrawardy Park at that time. His privileged daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has increased the forest division by six percent within a century by adopting a nationwide tree planting program to make her father’s dream a reality. Now the total forest cover in the country is 16 percent. He said, if there is no proper forestry, the environment and balance of the country cannot be saved. This causes extensive damage to biodiversity. Because trees take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen to keep organisms alive. He urged every person to plant three trees in order to keep the country good in the future and to save human beings and other animals.
Organized by Rajshahi Forest Department and with the cooperation of Rajshahi District Administration Office, before the discussion meeting, around 10:30 in the morning, a rally from the place adjacent to Gorhanga Gorasthan in Rajshahi city ended at the green plaza of City Corporation.
