Crops submerged in heavy rains life of the villagers is miserable due to waterlogging


Mashahid Ahmed, Moulvibazar: Damia in the western part of Konakpur Union in Moulvibazar (east of Damia Abda Government Primary School in the south of Damia Bazar) has been flooded due to heavy rains in the last few days. . Planted trees and roads have been submerged, causing indescribable hardships and poor living conditions. The locals including the victim Md. Ataur Rahman have lodged a written complaint. It is known that the water of the western region known as “Khar Khal” for long 50 years, the water of Saria, Naldaria, Bachandhar, Abda, Damia area falls into this Khar canal as “Fata Beel”. At present, Majnu Mia and Abdul Muhit Gangra have constructed the dam by connecting it to the canal in an unplanned manner. As a result, drainage is severely hampered. The heavy rains of the last few days have caused extensive damage. The matter was not resolved even after informing the concerned including the local chairman. The last meeting was held on May 22 with dignitaries of Damia, Abda and Buddhimantapur areas. The meeting decided that since water has been drained for 50 years. The tender-hearted students of the village travel to school. It was decided that drainage would not be hampered unless alternative measures were taken. But the dam builder’s neighbor Abdul Muhith disobeyed the decision. The locals have sought the intervention of the concerned authorities in this regard on an urgent basis.
