Eviction of 31 illegal establishments in coastal areas

Kazi Mamun, Coastal Correspondent: The administration has evicted 31 illegal structures set up in the place of Water Development Board in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali district. However, the locals complained that these establishments have been evicted without any notice. At present they are living an inhuman life under the open sky.The eviction drive was carried out in the colony area of ​​Mahipur Sadar Union of the upazila around 11 am on Monday (June 20). The operation was conducted by Sirajum Munira Kaychan, executive magistrate of the district administration. Mahipur police members assisted in this. Evicted resident Shah Alam Hawladar said that on Sunday, officials of the Water Development Board came and spotted 31 houses.Today (Monday) we were evicted without any notice. At the time of the eviction, we have shown 8 acres of land from the government. There was no work in that. Local resident Ashok Sheel said it had been raining all day. They could have done it if they hadn’t evicted us in this rain. We are now living an inhuman life under the open sky. Shawkat Iqbal Mehraj, sub-divisional engineer, Kalapara Water Development Board, said the evicted persons showed us a fake paper.They have no basis in this paper. They have also been given several notices to move earlier. Patuakhali District Administration Executive Magistrate Sirajum Munira Kaychan said the illegally constructed structures have been evicted in place of the Water Development Board. More illegal installations will be phased out.
