Bangladeshi youth beaten to death in India; Three days later, body was handed over Akhaura police


Moynul Bhuiyan,  Brahmanbaria Correspondent:  Three days after a young man named Dalim was beaten to death in Tripura, India, Indian police have handed over the body of a Bangladeshi youth to Akhaura police station in Brahmanbaria. Dalim, a Bangladeshi youth, is the son of Mohan Mia (50) of Madla village bordering Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria. The body was handed over to Akhaura Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman at the Akhaura-Agartala Immigration Checkpost border crossing at around 11pm on Monday. BGB-BSF officials of the border guards of the two countries were present at the time. It was reported that Dalim Miah, son of Mohan Miah of Madla village of Kasba upazila along with Zahirul (30), son of Hanif Miah of Madla village of Kasba upazila, Saiful Islam (30), son of Selim Miah of the same village and Hridoy Miah (26) son of Shah Alam of Kasla Kollapathar village were killed on Friday night. Kasba entered India illegally through the border. At the Akhaura land port immigration checkpost border at No-Mansland (zero line), state OC of Takarjala police station Debananda Riang told Jabbadhihi that a teacher was riding a motorcycle from a school in Golaghati village under Takarjala police station in Tripura state of India on Saturday morning. At that moment, the locals, on suspicion of being thieves, chased after Dalim, caught him and beat him to death on the spot. Another Bangladeshi youth named Zahirul Islam was involved in the incident He was seriously injured in the beating. Others were able to escape. Zahirul was later rescued by the Takarjala police and admitted to the hospital. Meanwhile, Dalim’s father Mohan Mia said that Habibur Rahman Shimul, 35, son of Hanif Mia of Madla village had been staying in India for some time. At around 9:30 pm on Friday, Shimul’s brother Zahirul and others took Dalim to India and killed him in a planned manner. He further said that Dalim was having an affair with Shimul’s wife. Although the matter was recently settled amicably in the family, Shimul and his men killed Dalim due to extramarital affairs. Akhaura land port checkpost BGB camp officer.
