Human chain in protest embezzlement of mosque money


Md. Aman Ullah: Local worshipers and traders staged a sit-in and protest in front of the Baitul Mamur Jame Mosque at Sugandha Point on Cox’s Bazar beach last Friday (May 28) after the Friday prayers. Speakers at the human chain and protest rally said that Lal Mia, former vice-president of the mosque committee, former general secretary, former cashier Mohiuddin and former member Nazim embezzled around Tk 40 lack from the mosque by conspiring with each other during their six years in office. Besides, he paid Rs 3 lakh as security and Rs 10,000 as monthly rent from a person who promised to demolish the aju khana of the mosque. Similarly, he took a security deposit of Rs 3 lakh for giving the shop to another person. When the president of the mosque informed the Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer about these issues, he found out that there was embezzlement, irregularities and corruption and ordered not to demolish the hospital and build a shop. At the same time, the mosque committee run by those people was disbanded. Local worshipers, businessmen and individuals including Danu, Selim, Farid, Shah Alam, Faridul Alam and Yunus were present at the human chain and protest rally.
