Patuakhali Correspondent: A woman named Iti Akhter (26) of Patuakhali’s Dumki Upazila has been accused of pouring petrol on her body and burning her body while she was sleeping, against her divorced husband. The incident took place at Dhoparhat village in Pangasia union of the upazila around 2pm on Thursday (May 26). The deceased was identified as Akter Akter, daughter of Abdul Mannan Khan of Dhoparhat village. According to relatives and local sources, Iti Akter was married to Jalil, 32, son of Nur Ali of Mirpur upazila of Kushtia district in Dhaka about six years ago. Jalil had been beating Iti for demanding dowry since the marriage. Iti moved to her father’s house from Dhaka about 5 years ago and they had a son. Unable to bear her husband’s abuse, she divorced her husband a week ago. Later last night, Jalil reached his father-in-law’s house from Dhaka and poured petrol on the sleeping Iti and set him on fire. At that time, when Itir’s father saw the matter, Jalil ran away. Dumki Police Station OC Abdul Salam said the body was recovered and sent to the morgue. Preparations are underway to file a case in the incident.
