Senior officials of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company said that the government took initiatives to launch pre-paid meter system three years ago to stop gas stolen, illegal and smuggled in the residential sector and to eliminate the above all. After the process of the process, the construction of pre-paid meter gas in Chittagong city started from last year. Initially, decision to bring only residential customers under pre-paid meter was taken. About 60 lakh residential subscribers of Karnafuli Gas in Chittagong started the process of bringing 60,000 residential subscribers under the pre-paid meter in the first phase of Jamal Khan, Halishahar, Chandgaon, Kotwali, Khulshi, Nasirabad, Lalkhan Bazar, Andarkilla, Chawkbazar, Kazir Dewri, Panchlaish and various residential areas. . The total cost of the special project under the contract with Japan government is estimated to be Rs. 466.5 million. Meanwhile, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is giving 154.11 million taka the government of Bangladesh provides 81 crore 45 lakhs and KGDCL 10 million 91 lakhs Pre-paid meters are brought from Japan. The meters are being set up under the guidance of a Japanese company. Within sixty thousand P-Paid meters of the first phase, 45,000 meters have already been installed in the relevant areas of the city. The remaining 15 thousand meters are also under construction. After the expiration of the project, which started in May 2017, it has been extended for one more year. However, the top officials said that although the time will extend till June, we will be able to finish the work of setting up all the meters by January next. The officials said that there is no problem in setting up the meter, there is a problem of manpower. So setting the meter is delayed a bit. Project Director Engineer Sarwar Hossain told the Daily muslim times that Petrobangla has top level directives to complete the installation of the fast meter. He said everything is progressing well. We will finish the installation of all the meters as quickly as possible.

In this regard, when contacted Petrobangla Chairman Abul Mansur Mohammad Fayez Ullah, he said, pre-paid meter has been introduced in some areas in the test subjects in Dhaka and Chittagong under a master project. The benefits of this have already started to match. Not only has the cost of customers reduced, but also the waste of many of our gas has been prevented. The whole thing is very much awake. So, in future, this project will be expanded and all the customers of the country will be brought under pre-paid meter, said Petrobangla Chairman.
