MT DESK:
Turkish Coast Guard rescues 44 migrants, including women and children who are swimming in the Aegean Sea. They were all trapped on the island of Ummarta.
About three thousand migrants died in 2017 on the way to Europe by the Mediterranean. It is considered the most dangerous way for refugees. Since 2000, 34 thousand immigrants have either been drowned or missing. Turkey responds to a refugee request from that island. The Coast Guard then rescued them on Monday.
