Shamsul Islam and Shahjahan Chowdhury, the two important leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, have been involved in public disputes regarding the parliamentary elections. Chittagong-15 (Satkania partially, Lohagara) are not willing to leave the seats. Both of them took nomination forms as independent candidates in the same seat. Local Jamaat leaders said that the central naibi Amir A N M Shamsul Islam has been nominated from the party for the election. Shahjahan Chowdhury took a nomination form for the very same seat on his own decision. Abdur Razzak Shahjahan Chowdhury bought nomination forms for one. Upazila level leaders did not know about the matter. In addition to Satkania-Lohagara, Chittagong-10 (double-mooring) seats also took nomination form Shahjahan Chowdhury.
Three leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami have collected nomination papers as independent candidates in Chittagong. They are: Jamaat-e-Islam’s working committee member and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury, central naib Amir and former MP A N M Shamsul Islam and Banshkhali Upazila Chairman Zahirul Islam. Among them Shahjahan Chowdhury and Shamsul Islam picked up nomination papers from Chittagong-15 (Lohagara-Satkania partial) constituency. Again, nomination papers were taken as separate candidate for Shahjahan Chowdhury from Chittagong-10 (Doublemooring-Halishahar) seat. Jahirul Islam took the nomination papers from Chittagong-16 (Banshkhali)
The leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Chittagong region have been disquieted with the purchase of nomination papers from the same seat. Many believe that the long chain chain of Jamaat-e-Islam has broken. Many leaders said that in the past Satkania constituency had participated in one election between Shahjahan Chowdhury or Shamsul Islam and the other used to work for him. But now both are rivals. Both are currently imprisoned.
When contacted, Satkania Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abul Foyez said that Shahjahan Chowdhury has been nominated for the central election for the 15 seats in the 15-member constituency of Shamsul Islam and Chittagong-10 seats.
I do not know about the nomination form of Shahjahan Chowdhury from Chittagong-15 constituency.
The former chairman of the Amirabad Union Parishad of Lohagara upazila and Jamaat leader Enamul Haque said that Shamsul Islam has been nominated from the party. However, we have nominated Shahjahan Chowdhury on behalf of the Citizens Committee. Yesterday (Monday) went to prison and talked to him. He agreed to contest the elections from Chittagong-15 constituency.
However, as the independent candidate collected nomination papers, the party has started preparing for the full-fledged elections. Special instructions from the center have also been sent to the local leaders.
Currently Shahjahan Chowdhury and Shamsul Islam detained in jail. Shahjahan Chowdhury was a member of Jamaat’s parliament in 1991-2001 in Chittagong-15 constituency. And Shamsul Islam was in 2008. Although Jamaat-e-Islami had already announced that Shahjahan Chowdhury would contest from Chittagong-10 (Doublemooring-Halishahar) seat. But in the end he took nomination papers from Satkania. Through this, the long-standing contradictions of the two leaders became public.
It is learned that after rejecting the registration of Jamaat-e-Islam, the party’s leaders submitted nomination papers after being issued the notification. Now they can no longer compete in the election due to non-registration of party symbol scales. That is why the BNP will have to participate in the election with a separate symbol as the rice ear or as a separate candidate. In 2013, the High Court verdict declaring Jamaat-e-Islami registration illegal, the religion-based party, which opposed the independence of Bangladesh, was declared ‘ineligible’ for the elections. The Election Commission issued a notification rejecting the registration of Jamaat last month.
Chittagong District Election Officer Munir Hossain Khan said that the nomination papers were taken as independent candidates for the three leaders of Jamaat.
The party sources said Jamaat-e-Islami has started organizing all types of competition in the elections, even if the party does not participate in the election. In the meantime, the direction of the 15-point direction has also been given to the party’s activists. In the meantime, it is important to constitute the election-based central committee, form a separate committee for the safety of the candidates, form a committee for seat-based campaigns, run social anti-government campaigns using social media. A committee has been set up to identify the voters who are abroad, who have already died.
However, the most important decision given by the party is that the Jamaat-e-Islami and Shibir activists, who are spreading all the seats in Chittagong, have come to Satkania, Banshkhali and Doublemooring seats in the city. In the past, Jamaat-e-Islami and Shibir activists left their respective constituencies where their leaders used to go wherever they used to compete. One of the leaders of the city’s Jamaat, who wants to publish the name, said Jamaat would work to snatch victory over his own strength if he did not have a compromise with the BNP. Through this alliance will prove their indispensability.
