Human chain of waiting for 10-day ultimatum gas connection KGDCL

Contractor Association has organized a human chain to demand waiting connections for waiting customers under Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) and all types of residential areas. The human chain was held in front of KGDCL building in Sholashahar in the city from 10 am to 12 am on Monday. KGDCL Contractor Association gave 10-day ultimatum to the human chain. It is said that if the demand is not fulfilled in this period, the Deputy Commissioner and the Managing Director of KGDCL will be given a memorandum and programs. Speakers of the human chain said that 26 thousand customers are waiting for four years after completing all the work of the Karnaphuli Gas Authority for getting residential connection. Their lakhs of money is lying in KGDCL’s account. But in four years, waiting customers are not getting gas. Speakers said the KGDCL authorities could not connect because of not having the government’s decision despite having adequate situation to provide gas. About 20 thousand customers of Chittagong are urging the government to immediately provide gas connections. KGDCL Contractor’s President Ikram Hossain, General Secretary Nazmul Hossain, Vice President Md. Harun, Shafiqul Alam Talukder, Joint Secretary Delwar Hossain Patwari, Biaojid Hossain Dhali, Finance Secretary Mahfuzur Rahman, Assistant Secretary Md Shamim Parvez, Office Secretary Md. Zahir, a large number of victims, including the customer. It is to be noted that till December 2015, 19 thousand 6 hundred subscribers have got securities and connection fees for getting the serial number by paying the gas. The remaining 5 thousand customers were also waiting for serial numbers by depositing the security and connection money. But in February 2016, the government closed the residential gas connection. According to the number of ovens, the customers deposited Tk 20,000 to 40 thousand in Karnaphuli gas.
