‘Due to competitive attitudes and driving by unskilled drivers, there are frequent accidents on the road. Again, many non-fitness vehicles are moving on the roads. Not only is the driver or helper responsible for these, the owner of the car must also be aware of this. The car will be checked regularly. The Deputy Commissioner of the district said on Monday the Chief Guest at a discussion of National Safe Roads Day-2014 organized by the District Administration and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) at LGED Auditorium, Sholashahar, and city. Ilias Hossain said these things. The theme of the day is to ‘follow the law, build a safe road’. He said, “The important places of the city are the foot over bridge but they are not used much. We do not have enough patience to cross the road. Crossing the car is crossing the road with a signal. There is a risk of serious accidents. To avoid such a mentality, everyone needs to be sincere and aware to use the foot over bridge. He urged BRTA to provide hassle-free services to the customers, including verification of driving licenses, vehicle registration and fitness. Speakers at the discussion meeting in the presence of Mujahidul Islam and Srabanti Das Gupta said that there are zebra crossings on our roads but there is no signal light. Moreover, most pedestrians do not know when to cross the road. As a result, many people crossed the road when they saw the zebra crossing. All of us have to be aware of the road crossings and movements. The drivers will have to be trained. But the owner has to come forward for this. Before the discussion meeting, a colorful rally was started in front of the Sholashahar-Chittagong Shopping Complex in the city demanding a safe road. The rally ended at the LGED Auditorium. The meeting was attended by BRTA officials and employees and transport owners-labor organization leaders.
