A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement has been signed between Bangladesh Power Development (Buibo) and Chittagong City Corporation for establishment of waste from power plants. The compromise agreement was signed on Sunday at the City Corporation Conference on Sunday. Mahbubur Rahman signed the IPP cell chief engineer. In the signing ceremony, the mayor said, the initiative taken by the Prime Minister to implement the project has been taken. Buibo will purchase the electricity generated from the project. The corporation will give their place for free. He said my election pledge was to give clean and green city gifts to the city dwellers. So this initiative of establishing a power plant to build environmentally friendly cities ensures proper management and use of waste. If it is installed, the power shortage will be overcome. He said that after signing the contract with other two contract tender process, it can take around 3 years to generate electricity. According to the terms of the agreement Chittagong City Corporation will provide free space. 25 megawatts of electricity can be produced from 25,000 metric tons of waste per day. Chittagong City Corporation will deliver waste to free power plants. The Bangladesh Power Development Board will implement the project. This company will fix sponsors in the form of build on and opera (Bu). If the electricity production center is built, discipline will come into the waste management and the demand for electricity will be met as well as the development of the environment. Increasing population is increasing in search of livelihood in the port city. The waste is being produced. That is pushing the environment into serious threat. As a result, diseases like air pollution, water pollution, are causing diseases. Household waste pollution is causing problems of environment due to non-availability of waste in the planned manner, due to lack of proper management and timely arrangement. There is no substitute for science-based waste management as a prerequisite to build a suitable environment. Especially cities such as Dhaka, Chittagong are more likely to have pollution problems caused by waste. The present government took initiative from 2016 to prevent this pollution problem. In this meeting, in the meeting of Power Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources this year, the electricity department proposed to produce power from waste between Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Narayanganj and Gazipur towns. The project is going to be implemented in Chittagong.
