Changes in the existing law to make world-class cities are essential

City mayor A stressed the need for modern and sustainable laws to create modern and sustainable city of Chittagong city.A . J. M Nasir Uddin He said this while addressing the seminar titled “Sustainable Development – Promotional Living City” jointly organized by the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (UDODO) and UNDP on Monday afternoon.
Chamber President Mahbubul Alam and Chairman of the Board of Programmers were present at the seminar held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center at Agrabad World Trade Center. Helal Uddin spoke as the special guest. City Corporation Chief Engineer l.  Cornel Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of Chittagong Development Authority Engineer Md. Shahinur Islam Khan, Deputy Director of the Department of Environment, Jamir Uddin, Managing Director of Lub-Reef. Yusuf and director Salauddin Yusuf, BSRM Lead CSR Ruhie Murshid Ahmed and UNDP Program Specialist Arif M Faisal spoke on the occasion. Presenting a documentary on Net Metering and LCUD, member of the SDO (Additional Secretary) Siddique Zobayer and UNDP Program Specialist Arif M Faisal presented the documentary.
City mayor said, building the world-class city is now time demand. To realize the current reality of the development of Chittagong city, the plan should be taken. In this context, he mentioned the biggest obstacle to the law. Except for the modernization of the existing law, the desired development is not possible. He said that the government can not be alone in the development of a city. Along with the government, the public sector will play a big role in funding. PPP-based financing will be arranged with individual sector and government sector. He said that if the coordination of these initiatives is confirmed then Chittagong will be built as a modern and sustainable city. So he sought the overall cooperation of the government and the government for proper implementation of the projects taken for Chittagong city development. Referring to the City Corporation’s waste management, the city mayor said, 1700 to 18 tons of daily waste is dumping the city corporation. It is possible to produce electricity, fertilizer and fuel through the use of waste products. Besides, the citizens of the city thrive in 5 to 6 tons of wastes-sewers and canals. The Mayor emphasized the change in citizen awareness, attitude and behavior.
Special guest, Chamber President Mahbubul Alam stressed the views of stakeholders for its sustainable development by mentioning the main driving force of the country’s economy and port city. He said that continuous supply of energy to the SDG and continuous supply of electricity to industries will continue. He urged to implement bureaucratic complications by urging for the implementation of public private partnership, besides ensuring sustainable private sector. He proposed to create a co-ordination cell under the leadership of City Mayor with the stakeholders concerned for the development of Chittagong including the increase in awareness of the city dwellers.
Chairman of the special guest. Helal Uddin stresses the use of energy efficient machineries and technology in the future by commenting that small changes will result in long-term good results. He called on the owners of the factory to accept Net Metering as a business and assured all cooperation from Mr. Shrodo and Mr. Shardo is going to launch the Green Building Rating System soon. The seminar was attended by senior government officials and leaders of various industrial groups of Chittagong.
