Chairperson prefers it most

Leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have called upon Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to shift imprisoned BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to United Hospital in Dhaka for medical treatment. It is Khaleda Zia’s most preferred hospital, BNP leaders have stated.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made this request to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday at the Secretariat. Later on Mirza Fakhrul Islam spoke to reporters.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam said, “We have requested the Home Minister to move Begum Khaleda Zia to a specialized hospital as soon as possible. United Hospital is preferred most by Begum Khaleda Zia. So, we have urged Home Minister to enable Khaleda Zia to get admitted in this particular hospital for further treatment.”

Mirza Fakhrul Islam also said, “Mr. Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that he would talk to Home Secretary, Inspector General of Prisons and other concerned officials about it. He said he would speak to the specialist doctors as well who are currently taking care of Khaleda Zia.”

Mirza Fakhrul Islam held this meeting with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday at the Secretariat from 3 pm to 3: 50 pm. At one point IG Prisons Brigadier General Syed Iftekhar Uddin also joined the meeting.

BNP leaders Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Jamir Uddin Sircar, Rafiqul Islam Miah, Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moin Khan and Nazrul Islam Khan were present during the meeting between Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Mirza Fakhrul Islam.

It may be added that Begum Khaleda was imprisoned for five years by a court through a verdict on Zia Orphanage Trust corruption charges on 8 February. Since then Khaleda Zia has been residing in the old central jail of Dhaka.

Earlier on BNP leaders held meetings with the Home Minister over Khaleda Zia’s medical treatment on 27 March and 23 April. Some politicians have expressed astonishment for what reasons Begum Khaleda Zia prefers only United Hospital
