Govt didn’t get contractor for honorary crests

The government has floated tender for four times to give the work of making gold crests for the foreigners who have their invaluable contributions to the country’s Liberation War in 1971 but no contractor has shown interest in it. For this reason, a cabinet committee has approved the proposal to purchase the crests directly without any tender.
The revelation of adulteration in the honorary crests made for foreign friends gave rise to the criticism. Officials of the Liberation War Affairs Ministry think that has created impacts on the tender this year.
Failing to get response to this, a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith in principle approved the proposal to collect crests in a direct purchase method.
After the meeting, Additional Secretary to the Cabinet Division Mustafizur Rahman told reporters, “The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has floated tender for four times for making crests. But due to the lack of response, it is going to buy crests directly.”
Now the ministry will find a company in its own initiative and will purchase the crests from there directly. The ministry will have to get approval from the Cabinet Committee on Purchase before offering the jobs to the company.
An official of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs said that the decision to honor the families of 1,661 members of the Indian Armed Forces killed in the War of Liberation has already been finalized.
