A joint operation by the Coast Guard and RAB on the coast of Teknaf Sabrang in Cox’s Bazar has recovered 120,000 yaba pills, four bottles of phensedyl and two sharp knives from a trawler abandoned by drug smugglers.The operation was carried out at 1 am last Monday in the Khurermukh area of ​​the Sabrang Union of Teknaf Upazila, said Lieutenant Commander Md. Siam-ul-Haq, media officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters. However, it was not possible to arrest anyone as the smugglers fled, he said.Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq said that a joint team of the Coast Guard and RAB conducted an operation on Monday midnight on the basis of information about a large consignment of drugs being smuggled through the Khurermukh area of ​​the Sabrang Union of Teknaf. In this, after seeing a suspicious trawler near the coast in the sea, the members of the joint team ordered it to stop. Sensing the presence of Coast Guard and RAB members, the smugglers managed to land the trawler on the shore and escape. Despite being chased, they could not be apprehended. Later, after seizing the trawler abandoned by the smugglers, a bag and a sack were recovered after searching. The bag and sack were opened and 120,000 yaba, 4 phensedyl and 2 sharp knives were found.The seized drugs have been destroyed under the supervision of the Narcotics Control Department, said the Coast Guard media officer. Lt. Commander Siam-ul-Haq said that preparations are underway at Teknaf Police Station to identify those involved in smuggling the drug consignment.
